The Northside News is a school news program which is shown every Friday morning at
Northside for the whole school to watch. It is created, performed, and videotaped by
5th grade students under the supervision of Sally Horowitz, librarian. Any 5th
grader who wishes to be on the Northside News team may sign up. Students gain
experience using a videocamera, digital camera, using Powerpoint to create credits, as
well as being on-screen as a newscaster.
Students in other grades may also be on the
Northside News, although not as newscasters. Each week there are 2 classroom
reporters who give a report on what their class is doing. Two different classrooms
are featured each week. The reporter is chosen by the classroom teacher.
Other regular features on the News include: an interview
with a staff member; announcement of the birthdays for the week; lunch menu; lost and
found report (items from our lost and found box); and school
announcements.
Parents who wish to see their child on the Northside News are welcome to borrow the videotape to watch at home over the weekend. Just write Mrs. Horowitz a note and your child will bring the videotape home for you to watch. Please send the video back on Monday. Or if you prefer your own copy, send a blank videotape to school and we will copy that week's News for you.
