Classroom Policies
Manners Tickets: Students can receive manners tickets from anyone for good behavior. The tickets are put into a bucket in my room. I will draw during the day for kidmart money. (Example-I ask the students to come to the carpet and I start drawing names if the student drawn is ready then they receive kidmart money) We also draw once a week from each class, that student gets to do something special on Fridays.
Horses: This is a class reward. Students can earn a horse for good behavior in specials, or good behavior in the hallway. We display the horses outside our classroom. Every week they are counted and charted on the cafeteria wall. Every time we reach fifty horses the class gets a reward.
Loss of recess: All the second graders have recess together. Every day on of us (myself, Mrs. Wallin or Mrs. Bane) will be staying inside. Occasionally a student may loose recess time for not finishing work, not doing homework, or repeat offenses, when they have finished their work, or have stayed in for the prescribed amount of time they may go outside for recess.
Referral: If a student chooses to get into a fight or do something very serious they will receive a office referral. This results in going to the office and a call home.

Snack: We will have snack everyday around 9:30. Students may bring a healthy snack for this time. Healthy snacks include things like fruit, crackers, and granola bars. Cookies, brownies, fruit snacks, donuts are not acceptable. They may bring these things to eat at lunch time. For birthday celebrations students may bring in cupcakes, brownies etc.. and we will either make an acceptation or celebrate in the afternoon. I allow my students to have a water bottle at their desk all day. Please see the supply list for specific requirements on this.
Note-in second grade we really stress personal responsibility. We will have nightly homework around three nights a week. If homework is not turned in it will result in a loss of recess time. Students are responsible for writing down their homework and having a parent sign their agenda book every night.
We will also be switching classes for science. So students will be interacting with all the second grade teachers.
They are also responsible for their own school box supplies. It is their responsibility to keep track of their supplies and keep them in good condition. If there is a problem with supplying any if the needed materials please let either myself or the family resource center know.
Don’t fret! Second grade is a lot of fun! In my class we celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day, Kite Day, have great guest speakers, and go on a number of fun field trips!
