Winter News

Primary students have been studying food classifications throughout the fall/Thanksgiving season.  Prior to Christmas we covered modes of transportation and Holiday vocabulary.  Speech sounds and language comprehension was incorporated into lessons as appropriate for each child.

Following the Holiday Break, we will explore animals; animals which inhabit colder regions particularly polar bears and penguins.

Writer’s Workshop

First Grader’s through Second Grader’s have been participating in writer’s workshops in their classrooms.  I have been working with some of the classroom teachers and my students in the classrooms to help them develop good writing skills beginning with graphic organizers, through rough drafts, conferencing, and to a completed finished product.  First graders completed letters prior to the Holiday break and second graders completed their memoirs.

Election News

Third Grade students studied a unit on our electoral system and democracy.  They presented a Reader’s Theater to their classroom peers and participated in an election process which included registering to vote, making a ballot, and voting.  A new mayor of Speech Town was elected.

Speech Homework News

Students will be periodically bringing home their speech folders with either speech homework or something to share with their parents.  Please sit down and review this with them.  They are rewarded for bringing back their speech folder if you have taken the time to go over the homework or material with them.  Thank you for your cooperation in this area.

7.  Cut out pictures that have your speech sound in them from magazines and make flashcard to play GO FISH or the MATCH GAME.
