Math
Next week in math we will be finding elapsed time, analyzing data on graphs and
charts, and reviewing the unit to take our first unit test. Please look for
graded Math Journal sections when it is brought home. When the journal is taken
home it will need to be returned the following day.
Science and Social Studies
We begin a new science unit next week. We will be studying
characteristics of our Solar System. In Social Studies we will be studying how
people interact with their environment.
Writing
This week we finished a short unit on writing friendly letters. We will
be writing persuasive letters beginning next week.
Reading
Please monitor your child’s reading at home. Reading Accelerated Reader books
at home can help build AR points. We visit AR store each month where students
can redeem their points for prizes. Prizes can be purchased for as little as one
point, but points can be saved for bigger prizes at the end of the year. Thirty
points, for example, can buy third graders a field trip to Gattitown in May. If
you would like to see the prize list and a thorough description of the entire
program you can visit Ms. Horowitz’s (Library Programs) link on Northside’s
homepage. I can also send you a copy if you prefer.
Halloween Happening
Friday, October 24th is the date set aside for PTO Halloween
Happening. Halloween Happening is a great family event with game booths, silent
auction, cake walk, food and more. Each class will be making a theme basket to
raffle at Halloween Happening during a Silent Auction. The theme for our class
basket is "Car Care" which would consist of any item that could be
used to care for a car such as car wash, wax, washing mitts, drying cloths,
upholstery cleaner, gas treatment, etc. All items need to be sent to our
classroom by Friday, October 10th.
