Students will keep their planner and a daily folder in their binders this year. The binder should be brought home and returned to school daily. Please look in the planner for messages from me and to see what your child has for homework. The daily folder will be used for homework sheets (if one has been assigned for the day) and other materials. There is a side for items that you should keep and a side for items that should be returned. You can also place items in the return side that you need to give me such as absence notes or other correspondence.

This year nine other teachers and I will be piloting a new math program called Everyday Math. I think the program will promote high math achievement since there is a high level of real life application and activity incorporated into lessons. I will be sending home more information as we begin the program. If you would like to see objectives for math and all other elementary subjects you may do so by visiting the Kentucky Department of Education website and the core content 4.1 link.

Our special class schedule is as follows: Monday – Art; Tuesday – P.E.; Wednesday – Library; Thursday – Music; Friday – library. Students should wear appropriate clothing for P.E. including tennis shoes.

Each week beginning next week I will send home a behavior report that should be signed and returned each Monday. The first sheet will include behavior for Thursday and Friday this week also. I will also send home information regarding our behavior plan next week which should be signed and returned. .

A snack calendar is in your child’s folder today. Please send 18 individually wrapped snacks on your child’s assigned day. Students may bring a bottle of water to school each day to use as they do their work in the classroom.

The large white envelope sent home yesterday has several pieces of information enclosed. Please send back the information forms that are enclosed as soon as possible if you haven’t already. Also two more pieces of information were sent home today. One letter addresses the change in our attendance policy and the other is a student profile sheet that should be returned by Monday.

The class with the most parents present at our PTO meeting this Tuesday will receive a popsicle party.
