News and Notes From 4th Grade

October 3, 2008

It’s hard to believe fall is here. Please make sure your children have a sweatshirt or jacket because we will be going outside each day for recess.

Language Arts
Our story next week will be Boss of the Plains. The skills we will be focusing on include summarizing a story and making generalizations. Please remember that each fourth grader has until Friday, Oct. 10th to earn their 12 AR points.

Social Studies (Mrs. Cecil)
Next week in Social Studies we will be continuing our study of Kentucky culture. We just wrapped up discussing the geographic features of Kentucky. Much of our discussion will focus on Appalachia and cultural stereotypes. I will be bringing in artifacts from Eastern Kentucky and we will be listening to music native to Eastern Kentucky. I will be sending home a study guide next week for the test over Chapter 3. I have booked our annual State Capital and Governor’s Mansion field trip for October 21st. I will be sending more info and permission slips home next week. Hopefully work on the Kentucky scrapbook has begun and is going well! Have a wonderful weekend.

Science (Mrs. Ison)
Next week in Science we will be focusing on animals! We will learn about life cycles, insects, birds, fish and ecosystems. We will participate in group open response writing, learning songs to help us remember science facts and even trying to "fish" with simulated bird beaks.

Math (Mr. Calmes)
Next week we will begin our work on chapter #3.
