Visits from Authors and Storytellers
2001-2003
Arkansas author David Sargent, Jr.
visited Northside on Dec. 15th, 2003 with four furry friends: Vera, Mary,
Spike, and Emma. Students were also able to buy books that David has
written about the dogs.

Storyteller
Finley Stewart visited in September, 2003 and told folktales, fairy tales, and
scary stories to all the classes.



Storyteller Sharon Kirk Clifton, in the character
of a plain Appalachian pioneer woman called "Jack's Mama," visited on
February 5, 2002.

Kentucky author/illustrator Paul Brett Johnson visited Northside in
February, 2001. He spoke about the writing process and signed his
books. Johnson is the author and illustrator of many children's
books, including The Cow Who Wouldn't Come Down, The Pig Who
Ran a Red Light, Lost, and Old Drye Frye.
He has also illustrated books by other authors, such as Insects are My
Life by Megan McDonald, and Saint Patrick and the Peddler
by Margaret Hodges.

Missouri author/singer Eddie Bowman (a.k.a. Chester
Drawers) also visited in February, 2001. The students especially loved his
silly songs, such as "Silly Dog," "Gilbert the Goose,"
and "Gravy on a bucket lid."
